Silk Wrap Nails...??

I've been thinking about getting silk wrap nails...i used acrylic for 2 years and i have my own nails back again but im having a problem keeping them long and pretty.

So what exactly are silk nails...do they drill your nail beds like arcylic nails....are they heathly?? etc.Silk Wrap Nails...??
Try Bio Sculpture nails. They apparently dont file your nails thin, and are great. I have tried them yet, although I am in the same position as you. There arent that many places that do it here in Oz..Silk Wrap Nails...??
im a nail tech, a lot of my customers has quit using acrylic nails, due to the fact that it weakens your nails, and switched to liquid gel overlay, which is a lot safer on your nails and feels very natural.

for an gel over lay all we need to do is file you nail a bit, to remove oils and dead skin on your nail, no drilling is involved

Okay so all I want are nice looking nails for the beginning of the school year. Silks, Gels, or Acrylics?

My friends have tried all of them. I just dont want my nails to be paper thin and stuff afterwards. Im only looking to get one re-fill. And dont tell me just not to get them becuase I have money saved up specificaly for them and this is what I want to spend it on. Thank you! =]Okay so all I want are nice looking nails for the beginning of the school year. Silks, Gels, or Acrylics?
Trust me as a woman who's worn nails for years... GO GEL. You can't go wrong if that's what you want to spend your money on. They are far better than acrylics or even silk. Acrylics are cheaper yes, but they will destroy your natural nails underneath. Silks are more for those who don't want to wear fakes any longer and used acrylic.. it helps strengthen their nails until they don't need anything anymore on them. Gel is your best bet. I've used it for years and have never once been sorry. They look the most natural, are gentle, and are tougher than acrylics.Okay so all I want are nice looking nails for the beginning of the school year. Silks, Gels, or Acrylics?
Gels are the most gentle on the nails %26amp; they look very natural. Acrylics are harsh %26amp; will make your nails really thin %26amp; they'll have ridges in them when you take off the nails. The silk wraps wont last as long. I'd recomend the gels, they're really pretty %26amp; you can still paint over them

get gel if you want them to look really clear

i use acrylic only beacuse i put polish on my nails

but i have had gel before and they look the most natural
None..once school starts you'll be too busy and your nails will be a hassel to do. However in my opinion acrylic would probably be best.
dont go and get your nails done, well, what you should do, its right away go get some sally hansen maximum nail growth stuff use that, its really helps, if you want strong nails you have to then use sally hansens hard as nails or diamond strength nailpolish, preferably clear so your nails dont get yellow when there longer you should go get your nails dont the day before school so they're not messed up, when you get them, get acrylics %26amp;%26amp; when your done do the same things to your nails with the sally hansen stuff.. =]
Acrylic.
I like acrylics
I like toe nails with some jam
acrylics or gels i here silks are not that great I love my acrylics and my sis does the gels her's look so real it is unbelieveable
gel there not as bad for your nails in my experience last longer and look better
Crystle Gels
i think you should get acrylics!! they look so good and all my friends get them!!
I WOULD GO WITH A CLEAN MANICURED NAIL. LIGHT COLORS, LIKE PINK. IT LOOKS NEAT AND CLASSY. HAVE YOU EVER LOOKED IN THE MAGAZINES, NONE OF THE GIRLS HAVE FAKE NAILS OR FRENCH MANICURES, AND IT LOOKS SO CLEAN AND FRESH.

Clueless about salon nails, what to get, acrylic, gel, silk tip, etc?

I am the only girl out of four boys and am finally coming into my own as a women. I recently tried Kiss everlasting french nails and really like how they looked on. They didn't last very long and I would like something ...nicer. I am wondering does using fake nails make them weaker over time? Also if you wear fake nails what kind is best or what is the difference between different kinds? I know of three kinds of nails: acrylic, gel, silk wrap/tips. What exactly are they? Which one are best? How much should I be paying?

My natural nails grow fairly fast and are thick enough but brittle sometimes. I am going to start eating gelatin to strengthen them. I am a very active person so I would like to get nails that can handle that.

Thank you so much in advance for helping a recovering tom boy!Clueless about salon nails, what to get, acrylic, gel, silk tip, etc?
Gel nails are the best. The look better, last longer and do less damage to your nails.

Yes. I had them and when I finally took them off my nails were deformed. Looked all lumpy and my nails were thin and brittle. It took almost 6 months for them to look normal again.

Yes, they do. Acrylic nails also ruin your nails after a while. All that filing and glue will have its effect eventually
    Yes it always does.
Yeah, I've heard that they do. Just stick to polish.

In a silk wrap, they add silk fibers to your nails and seal it for strength. As far as me, I would 10 times rather have a pedicure than a manicure. It's so relaxing! And, it can sometimes be hard to get all the rough skin, and clean up little toenails yourself (because you have to bend over, while the salon person has more leverage). You can keep as little or as much on for the massage as you want. If you don't want to show too much, just do what feels comfortable. They will keep whatever part they're not massaging covered with a towel. Remember, they see bodies all day...my friend's dad who is an ob-gyn says that he never understands why women are uncomfortable getting pelvic exams. He says that he does so many, that it's just automatic--they all seem the same, and he doesn't ever notice if people shave or whatever. lol I'm sure massage therapists are the same way. If you want to be modest, you could wear boy shorts and a sports bra. Enjoy! What is a silk wrap for nails?do you prefer a pedicure or manicure or manicure for my first spa visit?
i would do a pedicure and as far as the massage goes i wouldn't worry about it because your not completely naked and you have a towl over you

How can i make my nails strong after removing a silk wrap?

I started getting silk wraps about 3 years ago because my nails grow long but they would be really brittle and break easy, some one told me that a silk wrap will strengthen my nails. I am tired of gettin silk wraps and want to remove them because its thinning my natural nails but the nail tech said if i do my natural nails will break off, I personally think she would just hate to see the money go, Is there any other way i can strength my natural nails? How can i make my nails strong after removing a silk wrap?
Take them off and buy some strengthning nail polish which can be found in most stores which has a beauty section, also drink plenty of milk as this helps strengthen the nails, If you are a vegan or just hate milk you can buy calcium tablets from a health store, but don't listen to the nail technician as your nails won't drop off that I can be sure of !How can i make my nails strong after removing a silk wrap?

Acrylic, Gel, fiberglass, or Silk Wraps for my nails?

I have naturally beautiful nails that grow long and strong. I love getting my nails polished at a salon, but the polish always begins to chip the next day! I am tired of wasting my money and want to know what I can apply to my nails to keep the polish on the longest.

I have had acrylic before, and dislike the thickness and bulkiness on my nails. I want something to feel thin and natural- and help give me long lasting polish! I am unfamiliar with gels and silk wraps. I've heard about fiberglass, but don't know anything about it.

Thanks for your help!!!!! Have a great day!Acrylic, Gel, fiberglass, or Silk Wraps for my nails?
I have always had long, strong nails, too. I would never get anything but polish put on them. They will make your nails weak. To help polish last longer: if you have a manicure go home and put a top coat on, then put top coat on every couple of days. I use Sally Hanson Insta-Dri Anti-Chip Top Coat. It dries fast and works great. Also, if you are doing any cleaning be sure to wear gloves.Acrylic, Gel, fiberglass, or Silk Wraps for my nails?
gel and silk are very fragile, and expensive.

Tell your nail tech to do your acrylic very very thin, and give it a gel overlay. It'll cost about $50 for the original nails, but the color lasts longer and looks smoother, and you can remove it with nail polish remover without damaging the gel.

and silk wrap nails are often preferred over other artificial nails reinforcements because they are flexible. Silk wrap nails are often considered to look most like a natural nail, which is another reason they might be preferred over other types of artificial nails. They are thinner than, for example, acrylic or gel nails, which are notably thicker than natural nails. Silk wrap nails are usually not appropriate for those with a particularly active lifestyle. This is because they are thinner and more fragile than other types of artificial nails.

You will need to soak them off. You should be able to find the solution at Walmart near the nail polish removers.

Well, I have seen many people put silk over acrylic which doesn't make much sense to me. There is ';silk wrap'; nail polish which isn't really different from any other nail polish so don't waste your money on it! You can get REAL silk wrap done at a nail salon. It really helps to strengthen your nails and looks really nice! Its a little pricey but really worth it. The nail techs will cut a piece of real silk to fit your finger nail exactly and glue it onto your nail, wrapping it a few times. MUCH better than fake nails! If you must have a little extra length in your nails you can get just the tip glued on and then wrapped in silk! Good choice!Silk wrap fo the nails?

Silk wrap I think is still considered fake nails. I think it adds a material to your nails and doesn't come off for quite awhile. A lot of people do it, but it kind of sucks because it kind of ruins your real nails underneath. I wouldn't recommend it. I would recommend just doing a basic natural pedicure that just takes care of your own nails and does a nice paint job to them.
A silk wrap is another form of artificial overlay for the nail, just done with silk rather than acrylic or gel systems.

    Silk wrap or acrylic nails?

I just got my nails done the other day with my dad's gf.

she told the lady to do silk wrap on my nails or whatever thats called.

a few months ago I had my nails done with acrylic.

I was just wondering, whats the difference?what do you girls do?should i do it the other way?Silk wrap or acrylic nails?
Silk wraps are more flexible and thinner. Acrylic is more durable. Personally, I find that acrylic holds better because it stands up to water and abuse. Silk wraps don't.

Neither enhancement is more damaging that the other. What's damaging is the nail technician and her technique. If she is not using a drill to file or over filing on your natural nail then there shouldn't be that much damage. Also if she is using quality products there shouldn't be either.Silk wrap or acrylic nails?

I was advised to use silk wraps because they're better for your nails (even though I understand that any sort of fake nails weaken your nails) but I dunno if they'll last long because I use my hands a lot for cleaning and whatnot (I need them to last at least 2 weeks). I have had acrylic nails on for almost 20 years and my nails are probably crappy under, but I dont ever have them removed, so I dont see them.

If you are going to keep getting them done on a reguar basis, go for the acrylic - its stronger and lasts better.

If you only intend on having them on for your birthday - get yourself a professional manicure instead.

    Gel/Silk/UV nails?

Can someone please explain the difference between these three? I know what acrylics are, but I don't like the way they damage my nails. What are the differences between those 3 nails? I'm hoping one of them is somewhat natural looking?Gel/Silk/UV nails?
Well, you already know what acrylics are, so I won't answer that. But I would like to say that it is not the acrylics that are damaging your nails - though it can in rare cases, but rather it is normally a bed tech that damages your nails. Normally, they do this by using a 'drill' to file your natural nail and quite often will overuse it resulting in thin, weak nails.

Silk nails - or a 'silk wrap,' are basically just pieces of silk which have been cut to fit you nail and are glued to your natural nails. Another coat of glue - or resin, is then applied to give them strength. Silk nails are natural looking, but are also rather delicate. So if you have an active lifestyle, these are probably not a good choice.

Gel Nails are durable, and natural looking provided they are applied by an experienced tech who uses nothing but the best gel products available. As a general rule of thumb, gel nails are easy to do, but very difficult to master. So, a tech without much experience applying gel nails will not be able to make them look as good as a tech who has been doing them for many years. The product quality also plays a role in how the finished nails look, and also their durability. Good gels are quite durable, and mainly - they are non-yellowing. Many cheap gels will yellow over time.

One other thing about gels. Gel nails cost more because the products used cost more than acrylic products. Expect to pay at least $40-$45 for a full set. But the better salons will charge anywhere from $60-$85 for a full set. I wouldn't put too much trust in a salon that charged anything less than $40 though.

Also, make sure you are getting what you paid for - gel nails. Many 'discount' salons use a scam in which they will apply acrylic nails, then give you a UV gel topcoat, and call them gel nails. These are NOT gel nails, they are acrylic nails. The gels used are never a powder. An example of what top of the line gel products look like can be found here:

    http://www.cnd.com/Home/homelink-consume鈥?/a>

Gels come in a wide variety of colors including clear, white, cool pink, warm pink, and a whole lot of other colors. So, if a tech only has one or two colors available, then maybe you should look for someone else because the tech will be quite limited in her offering of gel nail applications. I mean, for example there are gels available that can camoflauge blemishes on your natural nails. Clear gels cannot do this. Nor can most other colors. It takes a special type of gel product to be able to make these nails. Also, wouldn't you rather be able to choose from a wide variety of colors instead of choosing between one, or two at the most. Thats like buying a car that only comes in red, or blue, and no other colors. Having choices such as many different colors available is much preferred.

Gels are also non-porous, which means that they don't absorb other things easily, and nail polish is a good example of that. So, gels cannot be stained by polish, whereas acrylics are porous, and easily absorb colors from nail polish, resulting in staining of the nail. Non-porous also means that real gel nails cannot be soaked off in acetone. They must be filed off by a very experienced tech. An unskilled tech can easily ruin your nails by filing all the way down to your natural nails, and then removing a portion of your natural nails along with the gel.

BTW, the very best gel products available - in my opinion, are those made by a company called LCN. But, these are also more expensive because the gels are imported from Germany and cost about 3 times what regular gels cost.

Acrylics are the most durable, followed by gel nais, with silk nails being the least durable.

    I hope this helps!Gel/Silk/UV nails?

I'm not too sure about silk and UV nails, but I know that gel nails are really good and natural. The only problem is, they're more expensive. My sister had them done for free because she knew the nail salon owner but they average between 80-120 dollars. and its really easy to file or cut the nails without damaging your real ones.
Silk nails is when they put a silk material on ur nails and gel nails is so much better more clear and last longer as for UV they're supposed to help ur nails grow under ur manicured nails and supposed to last 3 months i havent tried it

    Silk Wraped Nails?

I have a crack in my nail deep into the nail bed. If I got my nails silk wrapped to prevent the nail from tearing, would they need to keep getting filled like acrylic nails while they grow out?Silk Wraped Nails?
Yes, you would have to have the silk wrap maintained. Keep in mind that the longer you try to have the tip of that nail, the more that the nail flexes, the further into your nail the tear can go. A silk wrap may be a good idea to prevent the crack from catching on things, but you will need to keep the nail super short until the crack has fully grown off of the nail bed.Silk Wraped Nails?
Silk wrapped need to be maintained too. Have you tried putting super glue on your nail w/ nothing else to just seal it? This can work too.
yeaah u would have to keep redoing them cuz the wrapped part gets further and further away from the cuticle

i am thinking about getting my nails done but i dont know which ones to get?Whats the best type of fake nails to get? acrylics, silk wrap ect... and why?
The best kind to get would be gel nails they are the strongest. Although they are a little more expensive than acrylics.Whats the best type of fake nails to get? acrylics, silk wrap ect... and why?
gel nails ... they look more pretty and last longer
acrylic...they are stronger if you are heavy with your hands

    Acrlyic vs. Silk nails?

Which is better and why?Acrlyic vs. Silk nails?
acrylics are usually tougher, more durable, Silks are easier on the natural nail, look more natural because they're thinner, and generally have a more elegant look and feel, because the natural nail is allowed to grow out underneath them, and you don't have that funny fake looking line underneath the nail where the natural nail stops and the acrylic takes over. they usually look much more natural without colored polish than acrylics too.

Gel (or solar, light cured) nails also look nice without polish, or clear polish, but are more likely to shatter or crack on impact than either acrylic or silk, and some people are allergic to the combination of the chemicals used and the UV light, causing painful and itchy blisters around the nail.

Fiberglass is another nice natural looking option.

    %26lt;edit%26gt;

you can avoid them turning yellowish or greyish by using a good base coat under polish, one with a UV filter built in. (it's a clear bluish color basecoat)

also acrylics are the most likely of all the different types to encourage nail fungus.

I would definitely recommend silk over them all.Acrlyic vs. Silk nails?
silk nails last longer but they stain with color easier like if you got a really dark color they can turn a greyishy color.
    silk, more pretty
I prefer solar. They last sooo much longer and don't turn that weird yellowish color after a while.

    Acrylic, Gel, and Silk Nails??

Okay, I want to get my nails done and I have only had the gel nails before. However I have found it next to impossible to get the gel nails off so the gel nails pretty much force me to keep getting my nails filled or have them look completely weird until my nails grow out.

My question is if the acrylic or silk nails are easier to take off? Also just the general differences between the three nails.Acrylic, Gel, and Silk Nails??
Here's a bit about the different types of nails:

    Acrylic Nails

Acrylic nails are the strongest and last the longest of all the nail overlays. But, if Acrylic nails aren't done well, Acrylic nails can look thick and artificial. This type usually needs to be filled in every two to three weeks.

    Gel Nails

Manicurists use a Mylar form to sculpt your nail, and then cure, or set, it under an UV light. Because of this process, gel nails may need to be filled in less often than acrylic nails, though fill-ins are still necessary, and a professional must remove the tips. Gel Acrylics are the quickest to apply.

    Silk, Linen and Fiber Wraps

Wraps are pieces of silk, linen or fiberglass that have been cut to the desired shape and glued to the nail plate. This adds strength, and sometimes length, to the nail. Though done on natural nails, wraps are most commonly used to strengthen tips. Silk is the most natural-looking wrap and provides a lot of flexibility, but it is often too delicate for those with an active lifestyle. Linen is stronger, but it is not transparent and appears quite thick. Fiberglass is the best of both worlds, since it provides the natural look of silk and the strength of linen.

I like the look (besides natural nails of any length) of gel nails best. The idea is that eventually you will have your own natural nail with a gel overlay for strength and durability. I think the chemicals in the gel nails are a little better too.Acrylic, Gel, and Silk Nails??
The best are the pink and white nails, especially if you go to the tanning bed because they won't turn yellow. The only thing you can do if you don't want to get them refilled is buy acetone acrylic nail remover. You soak your nails in it and they get soft and will come off, or you can have the salon take them off but I am sure they will charge you to do that.
do not get acrylic the mess your nails up bad !!! they are not easy to get off my mom is a nail tech so i know , i would go for silk , its the most healthiest for your nails and they look uber real , but gel would my 2nd option but never!! acrylic
I stopped doing the gel/acrylic and silk nails (they're all the same to me)...and instead bought the Lee Press On french manicure nails. They glue on and last for about a week, and underneath my own nails grow and stay healthy. I pop them off and give my own nails a breather for a couple of days then back to the press ons. EVERYONE compliments me on my manicure, and assumes I have them ';done';.
WELL I USE THE ACRYLIC WITH GEL OVERLAY... IT MAKE UR NAIL LOOK MORE NATURAL... AND I ALWAYS TELL THE TECH TO MAKE THEM THIN ....AND IT'S EASY TO TAKE OFF... DON'T WASTE UR TIME WITH PRESS ON NAILS THEY FALL OFF TOO EASY..
acrylic nails are better lasting and easier to get off than any others. (nail polish remover works.)

silk nails are not easy to keep...(they crack off and are nasty looking, in MY opinion....they aren't as 'smooth' or natural looking as the others.)
acrylic is when they put a plastic one on top

and silk is just a peice of silk on top of your nails

and silk is the easiest to get off but it really only looks good if u have natural longish nails

and the plastic is kinda hard to get off but if u soak them in warm warter and/or hard on youtr nails then they'll come off
Try acrylic, they are easier to get off and last just as long.
silk or gel.. acrylic can tear up your nails if you dont have the right manicurist or you can't keep up with them your self

i do gel or silk on my clients for the same price as the regular acrylic.. because it is more healthy for the nails and i would rather keep a client coming back because i keep their nails healthy and not because they have to come back because their nails are messed up by the acrylic..

Have you considered just shaping and varnishing your own nails? Any kind of false nails are generally hated by men, and I don't blame them. Also, once they're on, there's SO much you can't do and people find the lame excuse of your 'nails' very tiresome
    Silk is better trust me.

Acrylic is way too damaging to your nail bed ...DO silk!!!!
Silk is better than Acrylic...just think of it in terms of fabric.

Do Silk Wrap Nails have to be sanded around the cuticles like acrylics or gels?

And does nail polish stay as good on them as it does on acrylics or gels? I'm trying to find an alternative to my nails (which will not grow, or hold polish), and to the acrylics and gels that have to be sanded around the cuticle (because I always seem to get nicked with the sander, and I don't want to take the chance of getting infected or an infection).

Thanks in advance....Do Silk Wrap Nails have to be sanded around the cuticles like acrylics or gels?
actually yes they do so they can be smooth....all nail enhancements have to be filled in some way....if you are getting knicked with the drill then you can request them not to use the drill.....and if you're getting knicked then chances are the person you're going to wasnt trained on how to properly use the electric file.....so if you MUST go to this person request they hand file everything....its not the nail enhancement that wont hold the polish 9 times outta 10 the polish is too old or the tech is not using a good base coat....for polish to adhere to the nail longer a good base coat should be used something like a tacky base coat makes the polish adhere to the nail better

  • Acrylic versus Silk Nails?

I have acrylic nails and have had them for a while. My ex aunt does silk and has for some time. I need to have my old ones removed and new ones put on. Can you tell me which you prefer between the 2 and why? Also natural or my own nails are not an option at all. Thank you....Acrylic versus Silk Nails?
silk nails look more naturalAcrylic versus Silk Nails?
i would go for acrylic. i love them because they are strong and dont break easily. I use them all the time. I see how people try other ones but i never seem to be interested in others because i am very happy with acrylic.. and they make them thin now (still hard though) and they look natural.
I like acrylic because i can do it myself. I don't think its that hard to take them off and redo them. i dont' know why you are having trouble. never had the silk ones but i use nail tips now intead of making the nails itself. i have graduated abit and its easy and cheap i have gotten good at it and never had any bad stuff under the nail you can learn and easy and cheap to do and make yourown stuff up.
I have porcelain for the last 5yrs after having acrylic for 5yrs. Like porcelain better, the grow out doesn't look as bad.
    never heard of silk nails
Acrylic is much more versatile in options as well as stronger. Silk is typically much thinner and more natural looking. I do not reccomend silk if you work with your hands much because it just doesn't have the same amount of strength. If you like the look of your aunt's nails, I suggest talking to your tech about making your nails a bit thinner (can be done on top or by drilling the underside (or both), depending on which look you like). Or you may choose to find another technician if yours is unable/unwilling to work with you. The best techs can be found in hair and nail salons as opposed to small stand-alone quick shops.

    Good luck.
silk! acrylic will kill your nail beds

Which are better in my case: gel or silk nails? read details. =]?

Im probably only going to get them re-filled once. I have to go to a wedding and then I might aswell have them looking nice for the begining of my first year at being an elementary school teacher. My natural nails are very brittle and very very short, I admitt, I have a habbit of biting my nails! Hah! So I'm afraid a simple manicure wont do the trick. =[ I dont want to spend an enormous amount of money and I want my nails to be in tact once the gels/silks come off. Oh, and I can get a french manicure on both of them, right? Im going for a clean cut french manicure!! =] Thank youu!Which are better in my case: gel or silk nails? read details. =]?
I went to a web site cuz I could not remember which was better etc.. so here is what I found :

Gel - Lighter, thinner, odourless and more natural feeling than acrylic, Gel nails are the number one choice around the rest of Europe. They require less frequent infilling and are undoubtedly kinder on your nail than Acrylic. So why are these not the number one choice for technicians and salons in the UK? Lack of knowledge and technicians failing to move with the times maybe? It did use to be the case 10 years or so back that Gel nails were not 'up to the job' but newer products and advances in technology now mean this is no longer the case.

Pro - Lighter, thinner, more natural feeling %26amp; kinder on the nails than Acrylic.

Con - Very slightly less hard wearing than Acrylic??

    3) Silk- The thinnest of all and some say the most natural looking although they are not ideally suited to those with a busy lifestyle. No primer is required when having Silk extensions, when a primer is used, as it is with other methods, it is designed to ';pit'; the natural nail. This allows the liquid form of acrylic to ooze into the holes, so that when it dries and solidifies, it has a better adherence; thus allowing the acrylic to stay on the nail. This leaves the natural nail weak, technically speaking, anything that is applied to the natural nail causes ';damage';. If one were to rate the degree of damage with this process, on a scale of 1 to 5 (one, being nail polish) the Silk process process would be a two.

Pro - Kindest system for your nails.

Con - Not suited for busy lifestyles but good for special occasions.

Good luckWhich are better in my case: gel or silk nails? read details. =]?
of course, i love silk nails. those look so cool. hope this will help
Gel is better...with silk they use glue.

What are acrylic nails? And what are silk wrap-thingys?

Thinking about maybe doing something nice to my nails. What are acrylic nails? And what are silk wrap-thingys?
Acrylic nails are generally applied with a nail tip which is GLUED to your natural nail bed. An acrylic material is layered over the tip and hardens. The new fake nail is then filed down and can be painted. They can be very pretty but generally look fake. I have had acrylic nails for years.

I have also tried silk wraps. I have very paper-thin nails and although I have nice nail beds and my nails will grow, they tear easily. A nail tech suggested silk wraps during a manicure and I tried it... HATED them! I would much rather have the acrylic nails or nothing at all.

Let me just say that here in the Midwest most of the nail salons are owned by Asians. I'm not prejudiced, but the level of expertise and the quality of the products used has been greatly compromised, not to mention the customer service is not very high. I just removed my acrylic nails after three years. I used to be able to go three weeks between fills and lately I barely make it a week. Is it because I'm harder on my nails? No, it's because the nail techs use hardly any product to fill the nail and their still charging the same. The last fill I had I could still see natural nail on the side of one of my tips. I pointed it out to the tech and he said ';no problem, you be fine, see you in two weeks.'; The nail broke the next day; I was so furious that I just soaked them all off.

I am now undergoing extensive nail repair! RevivaNail every day and Solar Oil 2-3 times per day. It will take 3-6 months to get my nails back in good shape. I am so tempted to go and get another acrylic set put on, but I am trying to stay strong! I miss my nails! But I know the products they use are so toxic. There will probably be a whole new cancer epidemic in the next 30 years from all of the acrylic nail toxins! What are acrylic nails? And what are silk wrap-thingys?
Its a substance they put on your nails after they apply the fake tips and file them down and polish.
Years ago I went to a nail salon and was talked into getting silk wraps, supposedly they were better for my nails than acrylics. Yeah, well they BOTH suck. And they BOTH ruin your nails! You will have to keep going back and spending money or your nails are destroyed. My nails were long and strong naturally, the lady just talked me into it when all I wanted was a manicure. Don't do it. Just get them painted. After I had my silk wraps taken off it took a couple months to get them strong and long again.
They are both a layer of thingy that go over your nails. sometime, tips are glued to your nails to extend their length. Then your nails will be filed to a desired shape, smoothened and painted on. Color would last mush longer over acrylic. You can do a design if you don't like color. I love girls with french manicure, it's beautiful.

Trust me, you don't want the silk wrap, it's more expensive, take longer tim, weaker, not as pretty.
they r daa fake nails dat u put on dat never work LOL:-)
Acrylic nails are made from acrylis powder that is made into a gel using acetone and then applied over your natural nail. Silk wrap is an actual piece of very fine silk material, cut to fit across your nail and held in place with nail gel. As silk is so strong naturally it makes a fabulous repair item.
They are dirty! More bacteria grow on artificial nails than natural nails. You are better off eating well, taking vitamins, and getting a regular manicure if you want healthy nails.

I work in a hospital, and they require all employees to have natural nails (no artificial nails) because of infection risk.
My nail tech always recommends gel nails because they don't damage your nails like acrylic nails do. I have noticed the difference from when I use to get acrylic and them take them off and my nails use to peel and be extremely damaged. Now that I get the gel nails, and I take them off for a while so my nails can breathe, they're soft, but there not damaged at all. Once you put nail hardener on them, they're fine.

What exactly are uv nails? crystal nails? a silk wrap?

Gel (UV, Solar, Crystal) nails are made with a ';light cured'; or “UV” gel consisting of pre-mixed polymers and monomers. This special gel is first brushed onto the surface of the natural nail, then is set, or ';cured,'; under an ultraviolet light. ';No-light'; gels, an alternative to the light cured gel, are slowly gaining in popularity. These gel nails are cured by brushing or spraying a gel activator onto the nails or by dipping the fingernails into water. Gel nails can be used over the entire nail and can also be used to fix split or broken nails. Artificial fingernails made from gel tend to look more natural than acrylic nails, but are not as strong or durable. Additionally, if they are not applied by a qualified professional, they may be hard to remove, resulting in damage to your natural nails.

Wrap nails are small, thin pieces of silk, fiberglass, paper or linen that have been cut to a desired shape and glued or bonded to the surface of the natural fingernail. Because wraps are the softest of the artificialartificialartificial fingernails, they are also the least durable. However, because they are so thin, smooth, and lightweight, wraps are usually considered to be the most natural looking of all the artificialartificialartificial fingernails. What exactly are uv nails? crystal nails? a silk wrap?

gel nails are supposed to leave your nails perfectly fine underneath

    What are silk nails?

It's not really a silk nail. What it is is a thin piece of silk fiber that is placed on the nail and then sealed and coated to give it a hard surface. It adds thickness to the nail to strengthen it. The only bad thing about it is as your nails grow out, you have to keep getting more silk added to the bottoms. It can be pricey after a while. Personally, I use a liquid nail strengthener, like Sally Hansen. What are silk nails?
silk wraps breath unlike acrylic nails ask your manicurist ...What are silk nails?
Silk wraps are just another type of artificial enhancement for your nails. They require fills every 2 to 3 weeks. They are a bit more flexible than acrylics.

A thin piece of silk is applied to your nail and then a coating of nail resin is applied.

Personally, I prefer acrylics because they hold up well with abuse and if your hands are in water a lot. I find that silk wraps do not hold up under the above circumstances.
Silk wrap. Just another kind of fake nails. They are crappier than acrylics. Both are horrible for you.
Sorry I haven't even heard about them. Hope you get a good answer.
silk nails are usually tips with a piece of silk glued to them . This technique is usually used for natural nails though to keep them from breaking much more natural looking then acrylic but more expensive because it is very time consuming

Has anyone had silk nails????how did they look and last?

I cant get acrylics SP? because i get allergic to it now???but i love the way fake nails look. and was thinking about getting them? how was you experience with them??Has anyone had silk nails????how did they look and last?
    idk

But I would Recommend Gel nails

They are harder/tougher than acrylic and more shinier

Which is best for me: gel or silk nails?

i have allergic reactions when i get acrylic nails, and i like to have my pink %26amp; white all the time, but im tired of getting bumps, cracked skin, etc... from the acrylic.

if i get gel or silk will i get the same reactions?Which is best for me: gel or silk nails?
If you are allergic to the ingredients in acrylic nails, thenmost likely you will also be allergic to gel nails since they are made from essentially the same ingredients. Silks are a bit different in that they are cyanoacrylate based. But you still may have problems with those as well. The only way to tell for sure is to hbe tested by a dermatologist to find out which specific chemical you are allergic to. Only then will you be able to accurately answer this question. Until then, you don't know for sure what is causing the allergic reaction on yours nails.Which is best for me: gel or silk nails?
You are probably allergic to the glue which I believe is the same in all three. I would go natural for a while. It will be hard to get used to, but healthier (and cheaper!!) in the long run. Try rubbing vitamin E oil on your nails and cuticles to strenghen them.

1.) which type of nail is better looking, the gel, acrylic, or silk nail? i heard the silk nail was just a waste of money, but the gel was nice. i was thinking about acrylics though ..

2.) how often should you get them filled, and if you get them taken off, does it really ruin your nail?

Acrylic nails, silk wrap, or natural? Why?

Which do you prefer and why?

I was looking into Acrylics for a wedding.Acrylic nails, silk wrap, or natural? Why?
Natural - it's easy to take care of. Acrylic will ruin you real nails. Not really sure about silk wraps though.Acrylic nails, silk wrap, or natural? Why?
I have tried all types of nails and at the present I prefer the natural nails. However, if I had a special occasion to go to I would consider getting them done professionally.

    In my opinion:

The most important thing about any artificial nails is the process used to apply them. So keep this in mind and read article below:

Since there are so many variables when it comes to gel nails, acrylic nails, natural nails and everything in between that your best bet is always to go to a trusted tail technician.

Ask your friends who they use or call the Better Business Bureau before going to a shop. Sometimes the only difference between gel and acrylic is how they’ve been applied, so you want to hire a professional you can trust..

    Have FUN at the wedding!

  • What are the best type of fake nails? Acrylic, Silk or Gel?

Acrylic's stronger but has more damaging ingredients to the natural nail. Also the tips are important, cheap ones are recycled plastic and very strong, sounds good but 'virgin' tips are designed to bend with the natural nail and break if necessary so they don't rip off the natural nail.

I only carry out gel treatments now due to the ingredientsWhat are the best type of fake nails? Acrylic, Silk or Gel?
Each technic has it's pro's and cons. acrylics smell and are thick. Gel I find to be not as strong as acrylic. Silk I like because they look natural, are fairly strong and aren't thick at all. I would recommend silk but It really depends on how hard you are on your nails. What are the best type of fake nails? Acrylic, Silk or Gel?
I LIKE ACRYLIC THE BEST. LASTS LONGER
don't get fake nails they will mess up your nails. just get manicures.
Well I been getting my nails done since I was 13 years old I thought Acrylic was cute because that was all I knew but now I like to get the Gel nails they look way better they look more natural
gel ones are way better but real ones cant be beat.
Gel nails definitely look more natural, but they tend to chip and crack a lot more easily than acrylic. Acrylic lasts longer.

I'm getting my nails done tomorrow.I was wondering if I should get silk nails?

Would you recommend them? Tell me all about them. ThanksI'm getting my nails done tomorrow.I was wondering if I should get silk nails?
I am a nail technician. And honsestly acrylics and silk nails are all the same. You have probably heard that silk are better. But what hurts your nails and make them fragile is that they are covered. So it's basically up to you because they both are going to do the same thing to your nails. Hope this helps!

What is better for your nails. Silk wrap or uv gel?

gels are a lot stronger than silks. so if you're hard on your hands go for gels. neither one is worse than the other if done correctlyWhat is better for your nails. Silk wrap or uv gel?
They are both really bad. Be careful when you get tips/gel nails at the salons. Before they do anything, be sure they use brand new files, buffers, trimmers, etc. You can get terrible fungus from those places.

Does anyone know the difference between fiberglass, silk, gel, and acrylic nails?

I only thought you could have acrylics, but which is better and more popular?

asking b/c i got gift card for nail place and i wanted fake nails.

thnxDoes anyone know the difference between fiberglass, silk, gel, and acrylic nails?
fiberglass nails have some fiberglass in them usually you get these if you work hard with your hands they are really sturdy so they dont break. Acrylic nails are what people normally get its just the acrylic powder that hardens. The gel nails are fake nails that are clear they are usually a clear light pink. if you get these nails you can not get them airbrushed or pained some people get these because they like the clear and they also are better if you go tanning a lot because they wont turn orange from the bed or lotion like regular acrylic nails do. And silk nails are just like acrylic nails but thinner usually older people get these they dont look as real and they break pretty easy. There are also solar nails which is what i usually get they look just like acrylic nails but dont get as dirty as fast and they wont turn colors from the tanning bed or from regular sunlight and they airbrush last longer but all of these options are expensive i would just suggest getting the regular acrylic nails

Does anyone like silk wrap nails?

I've never tried it! I wana hear your opinion on them please!Does anyone like silk wrap nails?
I have gel. It costs the same amount. The gel bonds to your nails better and the gel doesn't crack and lift because it bends to the shape of your nails and what you are doing. For example, I type A LOT and they are great.

The nail salon said that the wrap chips too easily. They didn't say that just because of the money because it costs the same.Does anyone like silk wrap nails?

Gelitan really does work -- try eating it for a while and you'll see a big difference.
they have a nail strengthen polish that has vitamin E it really works in about 4-5 days

Try using Nail Envy by OPI....it takes awhile for you to notice a difference (like a month)...but it works great!! I have very brittle and peely nails...this works great!!
First are you sure its not a fungus that is making them flake, its a classic sign. If so then try some spirulina, but make sure you dont an allergy to algae. Also take in calcium but remember that too much calcium is a very bad thing. Vitamin E also helps with hair and nails try getting some of that. Also too some meds will make your nails do this or a vitamin deficiency.
    prenatal vitamins
The FIRST thing you should do is see a doctor! Nails that 'break' and 'flake' are a symptom of thyroid problems ... especially if you are also gaining a lot of weight, are 'underweight' or have little energy. Getting your thyroid 'fixed' will help your nails ... but they will still 'flake' at times if your thyroid gets 'off' just a little bit.
Drink milk on the daily, take vitamins that help build up your calcium level, and buy the clear finger nail polish and apply 2 coats to clean dry nails everyday! If U follo dese directionz yo nails will probably end up the way U want dem 2 B!!Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi, Calcium. Dairy or products that have calcium and lotion, it's a dry, harsh world in the winter. Good luck and then go get a manicure!!

  • How much does it cost to get silk nails done?

I had silk nails for years, and the cost at my manicurist is still around $50 without the manicurist's tip. However, if you are considering silk nails, you may prefer gel nails, instead. They are much thinner than acrylics, and less fragile than silks. My manicurist asked me if I would try them because I play the piano and it was rough on the silks. I've had gels for over a year now and am very happy with them. Also, they are slightly less expensive than silks, around $40 - $45. Also, check out the new ';American Manicure'; as opposed to the French one. The American manicure is more pearl colored, and not stark white. They are more natural looking. I hope this helps.

What's the difference between Bio Gel, UV Gel, Silk Gel, Powder Gel and Acrylic nails?

    Hype?

Seriously gel and acrylic are pretty much the same. Gel usually has to sit under a UV lamp to cure.

Powder gel application is a little bit different in that you paint stuff on the nail and then they usually sprinkle the powder over it to mix it.

Gel is a gel form that is premixed in a container and actually looks like gel.

Acrylic is powder and liquid that has to be mixed together and then applied to the nails.

Hope that helps a little. There really isnt a huge difference in any of them

How do you refil silk wrap nails? ?

with silk nails, do you just cut the desired shape and stick to the cuticle of the nail agen? or do you have to leave it to grow out and then stick other one on?How do you refil silk wrap nails? ?
Silk wrap nails use resin, when your nails have grown enough for you to notice a ridge then you can either file/buff the ridge smooth so its flush with your own nail (great care must be taken so that you're not filing your own nail) or you can have an infill of resin. when your nails have grown so much that the silk is mainly on your free edge with very little left on your nail body then its time to remove and have a fresh set (roughly 4 months apart depending on speed of nail growth)

Of all the nail systems I prefer the wrap system...its more natural looking and actingHow do you refil silk wrap nails? ?
You need to wait for them to fall off and use a new one, or wait for them to grow out.

definitely don't cut out a shape at the bottom!!!

Do you have to put on tips for silk wrap nails?Does anyone know about Silk wrap Nails?
No it doesn't have a tip and they look like glass. What they use is a paper mold that they put underneath your nail and create a tip with it and let it dry and mold it into a nail shape. They cost more than acrylic nails but they look so nice and glossy!Does anyone know about Silk wrap Nails?
Hmm what the other answerer described is a sculptured nail, not a silk wrap nail.

No you don't have to have tips for a silk wrap. You can just have them on your natural nails. The purpose of it is to give more support for your nails, so it's good for someone who wants to grow out their natural nails but not go for acrylics.

Nails: What exactly is a silk wrap, and what is its benefits?

I just recently got an overlay and I didnt like how it left my natural nails looking, so I was lookin to try something different. I need something that both strengthen and not destry my nails.Nails: What exactly is a silk wrap, and what is its benefits?
A silk wrap is a piece of very tightly woven silk that can be prefit or cut exactly to match your nail plate. It is laid on top of your nail and several coats of a high tech resin are applied over the silk. An aerosol glue dryer is then sprayed over the nail and thus hardening the glue. The next step is to file and buff and prepare to polish. If all these steps are done properly, your nails whether they are natural or tips should be undetectable as fake. I have had excellent success with silk wraps and have been doing nails professionally for over 20 years. They require fill-in's every two weeks just like any other enhancements. They are durable and are alot thinner that acrylic. Just remember that your natural nails should NEVER be prepped with a drill. Your natural nails should be ';etched';, which means very light filing to remove the oils that accumulate on the nail plate. I would definitely recommend you seek out a professional in your area and not one of those ';discount'; salons. Feel free to email me anytime if you should have any questions. Good luck to you.Nails: What exactly is a silk wrap, and what is its benefits?
Wraps are pieces of silk, linen or fiberglass that have been glued to the nail. This adds strength, and sometimes length, to the nail. Also though applied on top of natural nails, wraps are most commonly used to strengthen tips. Silk is the most natural-looking wrap and provides a lot of flexibility, but it is often too delicate for those with active lifestyles. Linen is stronger, but not transparent and appears quite thick. Fibreglass provides the best of both worlds since it gives the natural look of silk and the strength of linen. All are sort of not great for your natural nail.

  • What is a China Silk Wrap in relation to manicures and nails?

I saw this at the salon today on a business card. I would've asked but it was hard to understand the tech. What is a China Silk Wrap in relation to manicures and nails?
Another popular alternative to acrylic or gel preparations are Fiberglass or Silk wraps. They are done by cutting pieces of actual fiberglass or silk fabric to fit on the surface of the nail or tip and then it is sealed down with a resin or glue. These are a possible alternative for those who are allergic to chemicals used in the acrylic or gel process.

I used to have them as they looked more natural than acrylics. I tried silk wraps but they weren't as durable as I wanted, so I ended up with fiberglass wraps and they were durable and looked totally natural.

How can I remove the silk wrapping from my nails entirely.?

Buy a bottle of plain acetone, not nail polish remover and soak.

You can get it from a beauty supply store like Sally's.How can I remove the silk wrapping from my nails entirely.?
soak them in acetone polish remover for awhile, It seems to take forever to do, but it works- Had to do this myself.. Its a pain!

you typed the difference!!!! although acrylic and powder are used together to create acrylic nails....gel is just that gel(which are more expensive than acrylics) silk and fiberglass are pretty much the same process as gels but are more for strengthen the nails(better than acrylics some say)glass nails are usually the illegal acrylic that contain MMA

soak in warm water for about 15 minutes, and depending on your pain threshold, you can either pry them off or work at them with acetone.

I am going to a spa for my birthday and am wondering if I should get a manicure or pedicure? my toenails are all mest up, and short and the skin around them are gross, can they fix them. do facials work?, and do have to be completely naked for a massage? can you wear a takini for a massage? i dont want to show anything! thats ambarrsing! how do you now a spa is good? to get a french manicure, do your nails need to be long? What is a silk wrap for nails?do you prefer a pedicure or manicure or manicure for my first spa visit?
As a nail tech, I can tell you that getting a pedicure is the BEST thing to go for!!!! Your feet take a beating every day and need the most care... it's also the most relaxing of the spa services--aside from a full massage. For the best experience, avoid those discount nail salons--too much traffic for relaxing.

Silk Wraps are for reinforcing your natural nail, they don't serve well as artificial nails alone. If you have fairly strong natural nails and just need a little extra help in keeping them from breaking this would be a good option for you.

Go for a specialty pedicure! Don't skimp on the price, you want the best!

Things to avoid... foot razors! Only a medical dr should be using blades (most states they are illegal but some get away with it because folks don't know they are) Avoid any tech that's not willing to explain proceedures, and run like the dickens if the footbath isn't clean or they pull their clippers (metal instruments) out of a drawer (they should be in a sanitizer bath or sealed packages) and make sure they use NEW files and such (the disposable stuff).

Massages are great if you like them (I've always been too weird about people touching my body to be comfortable) and no, you don't have to be totally nude. Explain that you are nervous and they will understand... ANY respectable massage therapist will be more than glad to accomidate you to make you comfortable!

  • Have you ever had silk wrap nails?

I went to the salon for a manicure and the lady asked if I wanted acrylic nails. I told her no because I really don't need them. I have nice nails and I don't want to damage them. She suggested silk wrap which she said would protect my nails. The only reason silk wrap appeals to me is because she said the nail polish stays on for 3 weeks as opposed to chipping off with natural nails. Should I get the silk wrap?Have you ever had silk wrap nails?
I prefer silk or fibreglass systems but if your nails are currently fine then dont bother. The salon is just trying to drum up extra business, yes sure polish can stay on longer but if you buy a decent base coat you'll get over a week anyway. With ANY nail system you are looking at constant upkeep...depending on how quick your nails grow you will be there every 2-3 weeks. The wrap makes your nails harder, more brittle so more prone to breaking where your natural nail is likely to flex. Dont get me wrong, I like wraps but I prefer real nails.

I use wraps on my fingers when I've chipped or ripped a nail to add strength and keep them all the same length. I'll use wraps on clients hands where there own nails are too weak or too prone to splitting etc and i'll occasionally use wrap system with tips if a client requestsHave you ever had silk wrap nails?
get a regular manicure because silk wrap is really expensive
no, just get a normal manicure
    yeah you should try that(:

What is the difference between silk wraps and acrylic nails?

Acrylic nails, they rough up your natural nail to make the acrylic adhere to them, they are raised (unnaturally), they can lift and you can get a fungus. On the other hand, silk wraps are just a thin layer of sticky backed silk that goes over your natural nail. They don't have to damage your nail to apply them, they don't lift, and they aren't raised in a freakish manner like acrylics. Basically they put the ';silk wrap'; on your nail and apply resin or glue over it, buff it, and polish. You go in for ';fills'; ,same as acrylics, about every 2 weeks. If you want to remove them you can without the same damage you would have if you removed acrylics. Silk wraps are better, they basically just let you strengthen your natural nail, acrylics mask it.

Can I ask a Nail Salon to Silk Wrap my OWN NAILS to keep them strong?

I have very thick, long, strong nails. And, I would like to keep them that way. Unfortunately, no one speaks English in the Nail Salons that are close to home, so I have had trouble attempting to explain this to them. I would like to ask them to put something on my nails (possibly a Silk Wrap?) to prevent future breaks %26amp; tears. Is this a common practice? Or is there another method for keeping natural nails strong %26amp; healthy? Thanks for your thoughts! Can I ask a Nail Salon to Silk Wrap my OWN NAILS to keep them strong?
You should just consume a lot of calcium and vitamins and they'll stay strong.

Look through their catalog and pick out what you want.

Whats the difference between acriylic nails and silk nails?

acrylic turnz yellowWhats the difference between acriylic nails and silk nails?
Acrylic nails are a actual 'tip' that is glued over your real nail and the an a acrylic paste that is spread over your (roughed up) real nail. Silk nails are a fabric and paste that is spread over your real nail. My manicurist said the silk nail (also known as a silk wrap) is less damaging to your real nails. However if you are going for the 'fake nails' look, I'd go with pink %26amp; white-you get the pretty french manicure effect, and they don't yellow.

What do all of the different types of fake nails mean (acrylic, silk wrap, etc.), which is the most natural?

I've had alot of people ask me which is better for your nails... In my professional opinion Wraps are better due to the fact that they are the lighter of the three.

Most nails become dependent on things that are applied to the nail. The best way to grow strong healthy nails is to get them manicured on a regular basis without adding any additives to them. Yes its true most people have naturally weak nails and for them I suggest to get an overlay to their nails and maintain their keep up.

That's why its soooo important that your nail tech be more than just a person who applies tips... She/ He should be just like your doctor(educated and informed).

I do more acrylics than gels and wraps because to me they are more durable than the three.

Now when it comes down to the removal process Acrylics and Wraps are removed the same way with 100% acetone, while Gels have to be drilled off with an electric file. Now there are gels out there that can be removed just like acrylics and wraps and they are called NO-Light Gels(which I prefer to work with-because they are not as time consuming as regular gels). Gels are easier to break than acrylics because when you break an acrylic the tip just pops off and more than likely you are left with the new growth(if any), but if Gels break they shatter like glass and nine times out of 10 you lose the whole tip including the new growth. What do all of the different types of fake nails mean (acrylic, silk wrap, etc.), which is the most natural?

I've only used acrylic. They are very thick, and I can't go without nail polish. Do silk or gel appear more natural? What are the differences between the 3 types of fake nails: acrylic, gel, and silk?
Acrylic, you know what that is, the powder and liquid. The gel is a powder they apply to your own nail and wet it with gel to make your nail stronger. Silk is actually silk, cut to the length and width of your nail and applied with a liquid and buffed.. There are also solar nails, like the acrylic, but they use two different powders (pink and white) and they dont polish them, just buff with a cream....they can make all of them thin if that is what you want. I would try them to see which you favor more. Everyone's tastes are different.

Those rings mean they are drilling at your cuticle too deep at each fill in. You definitely should find someone else. They just look at you as another fill in and not trying to keep you. They would not be doing this if they were more professional and careful. What are the differences between the 3 types of fake nails: acrylic, gel, and silk?
Maybe it's not the fact they are acrylic.... but the technique of your nail tech! The people I currently go to now do very nice natural looking acrylic nails for me. find a different tech and see if they don't do better work.
gel is more natural definatly, i dont know the sciece behind, but thas silk is not whats up!

Does anyone know of a salon that does silk nails?

Silk nails cause less damage to your nails and look more natural than gel, they do not use acrylic, instead they use glue and use satin fabric applied to the tips, however if done wrong or if they use too much silk, the nails dont keep their shape. I had them done for years but less nail places seem to know how to perform this type of nail as they actually require skillDoes anyone know of a salon that does silk nails?

are they manicure and pedicure? What are the differences between gels, silk, acrylic nails?
Acrylic is made of Monomer and power, and are spread on with a brush.

Gel: is basically the same as Acrylics, but you can cure them with a Activator or UV light..If you have a UV light, To get them off, You have to buff the nail layer by layer.

Silk Wraps are just pieces of fabric put onto the nail, and is activated by a Spray on.

Pedicure is something you get to make your feet look better(Get the dry skin off, Lotion up, etc), as Manicure is something to make your hands look better...Both include finger nail polish...You can include a Manicure in with the acrylic/gel/silk, if you want. What are the differences between gels, silk, acrylic nails?
Gels, silk and acrylic nails are all types of nail enhancements. They are not the same as a manicure or pedicure.

Manicures and pedicures are when they soak your hands/feet in water then push back your cuticles, file your nails, do a massage on your hands/arms or feet/legs. Then your nails are polished.

$70.00 that is expensive. Either way my rule is 3-5 bucks per limb. Depending on the level of service. My mom is getting fake nails or silk-wrapped tips tomorrow. They cost $70, how much would the tip be?
I've left as little as $5 because the lady did a pretty bad job, and she made me bleed. I wanted to not leave her anything but I had to be semi-courteous.

And the last time I went to another places that was very nice and the lady did a very nice job... so I left her about $15.

$20 seems a little too pricey for me, but that just might be my opinion.
I normally give them a $10 tip. It depends on how good they are doing. Are they rushing? $5 tip. Did they take there time? $20 just as normal $10
70 dollars...r u serious don't give them anything ..they are including the tip already I travel to NY and live in TX and both places the price range between 35-45 dollars..and i go to spas
    A typical tip is 18%.

    $70 x 0.18 = $12 rounded down to nearest whole dollar
I would tip $10 to $15 dollars if they did a good job.
    10 bucks :)
    5 bucks is enough

i'd say 10 bucks is too much.

go with 5. you dont wanna give coins. 5 dollar bill. done.
70 bucks OMG thats a rip off
slap down like 15 bucks.. not biggie

How long do silk nail wraps last before you have to touch up?

I have acrylic nails on right now and am not very fond of the ';chunky look'; they give my nails. Not to mention, I would really love to scratch an itch again - not rub it hard with these thick blocks on my fingers.

I'm interested in a more natural look and feel. And I'm finding wraps would be the way to go. But before I do it, I want to know... how long do they last? Researching prices at nearby salons tell me they are expensive. I don't want to have to get them done weekly. How long do silk nail wraps last before you have to touch up?
I was looking into getting silk nail wraps as they look more natural, with the proper care and maintenance they will last for approx 2-3 weeks as the natural nail grows over this period. When you get a gap between your cuticle and the wrap you will then need an infil.

also, i know that you have the have them maintained..how often would this have to be done and how much does this cost each time?

any help is appriciated, thanks xHow much will it cost for me to have false nails and silk wraps?
25-40 roughly, the place that I go it's 35 but it totally depends where you go. [(for the first time)] I pay $15 for the refills. %26amp; usually I go in every two weeks. Just a notice; when you take them off they make your nails really thin %26amp; weak. Also, you could get fungus if water gets trapped in between your nail %26amp; the acrylic. Hope you enjoy though; the look is worth it (:

What's the difference between silk nails & gel nails & which is better?

I had silk nails wear they glued a bunch of strips of what was suppose to be silk on my nails but it messed up my nails and it chipped. Then I started getting the gel it lasted like acrylic. The key is to tell them not to file your real nails and they apply it like acrylic. You can soak it in acetone nail polish remover and it will come off with minimum damage to your nails. But some nail shops say they are using gel when it's really clear acrylic.

Be careful in San Jose and better yet, stay out of the stinking place. It's dirty and very unfriendly to people. There are meter maids and police on every corner just waiting to ticket you for anything. They had the all star game there and ticketed the out of town visitors for jaywalking. Downtown is a racial ghetto with gang fights at night. The fountain downtown, where the homeless take baths, has been shut down because it's full of disease. San Jose is the San Francisco wannabe that will never be.

    DIY silk nail wraps?

I found a kit that has the pre-cut silk and fiberglass tabs, glue and the resin spray. I used to love getting wraps, but since I moved to Middle-of-nowhere city I just can't find anyone to do them for me. I want to do a little bit of extension (not with an acrylic tip but using the silk as an extension). Can I do that at home? If so, what will I need?

Thank so much for your help :)DIY silk nail wraps?
no you actually have to have tips to do the extension cause the wrap isnt/wont be strong enough to create the nail tip....so you will need to go out an buy nail tips and glue and then apply the wraps(following the directions)and using the supplied items in the kit...you should be ok

Well unfortunatly thats the only way. Once you have acylic nails it will take approx 6 months for them to grow back naturally. Acetone is powerful, so test it first on a spot that won't show. If it doesn't work, can you do fabric paints to make the glue look like it's supposed to be there?
The easiest way to get nail glue out of something is always acetone (nail polish remover). However, if you have a real silk dress, i would advise taking it in for professional treatment, as doing so yourself may cause the material to bleach or deteriorate.

The difference between Acrylic and Gels nails.

Acrylic nails are called many different names, with the nail technician's least favorite being ';fake nails';. We much prefer the term artificial nails. There are several different types of artificial nail enhancement products as well as application procedures. The most commonly applied enhancement is traditional acrylic, which is a two-part system of liquid (monomer) and powder (polymer). This type of product can be applied with one color of acrylic, pink and white acrylic for a Permanent French look, or can be applied with colored acrylic, glitter acrylic or in any combination. Pink and white acrylic nails are often referred to as ';Solar Nails';. Solar Nail is a product made by Creative Nail Design Systems and includes their Original Solar Nail, Radical Solar Nail, Retention + , and Moxie acrylic systems. Unless you actually see this product in its original bottle on the nail table, your nails may not be 'Solar Nails';.

Gel Nails is a one-part system consisting of the application of a thick viscosity gel acrylic. Gel is normally 'cured' under a UV light. Do not confuse gel with traditional acrylic. Even though the two products are actually acrylic, they apply and wear differently. Gel applied over acrylic to seal the surface does not make your nails ';Gel Nails';. Gel nails are actually acrylic nails; they are made from the same class of acrylates, but with different molecular structures, appearance, application procedures and different curing methods. Be certain you are receiving the artificial nails you requested.

Fiberglass is a product very widely used. Since it's very light, resistant, waterproof and slightly flexible it can be found on boats, bycicles, cars AND nails.

It's applied in the folowing maner:

A silky net is glued to the surface

The net is filled with resin makiing it transparent

Activator is spayed on to the resin making it dry

It's quite simple and very strong, it can be removed by soaking in acetone just like acrylics.

Silk is same as fiberglass just different weave ......

Never heard of extreme nailsWhat is the difference between - gel nails, acrylic nails, silk wraps, extreme nails - besides price?
    i would get GEL.

they last long, well for me they doo anyway

best of luck.my wishes to ya!
gel nails are just a gel that they put on over the acrylic when the nail is finished. It seals the nail and makes it stronger and also makes it so that your nails won't be damaged by nail polish remover. You have to buff the gel off. It's a really good option for someone who works with their hands a lot.

Acrylic is just a layer of acrylic put over a nail tip that is added to your natural nail for length.

Silk and Fiberglass wraps are just a piece of either silk or fiberglass fabric that is cut to the shape of your natural nail and put on with a bit of clear polish. This is only used to strengthen your natural nail, it does not add length.
silk wraps nail are the best because by wrapping the nail it protects it from easily breaking the other nails break and peal quickly
gel nails are less damaging and usually stay adhered a little better
all depends on your lifestyle and if yout want tips and how long you want them for, etc... heres the basics:

gels- my favorite, good for almost anyone, very hard, most natural looking, you can soak them in water, or actetone, or anything and they wont come off!!.. to remove them, you file them off... the only downside-its expensive! but its becuase the gel is expensive

acrylic-affordable, hard to break them, but they break down in water and actetone, and if not done right, will yellow... but they are cheap

silk wraps- i personally dont care for them.. people like then becuase they dont damage your nail, and are very light on the fingers.. they are hard to up keep, but since everyone is going green, they are becoming more popular.

i have never heard of extreme nails... im assuming is just another type of gel nail, but ill have to look into it...ill find out tonight lol... hope that helps! and yes, i recomoend gels if your hard on them, as long as you can afford them, if not, go with acrylics!
What exaclty is a gel nail? i've never heard of that. im curious to know.
gel nails are pretty much just a regular acrylic but at the end they put on this gel and put it under i light. i am not sure what it does but that what i get and my nails stay on forever! they tend to be 25-30$

acrylic nails are just basic acrylic put over your nails to make them hard. you can get that for 20$

silk wraps are the best quality and they look very natural. on most nails you know how your nails look thick from the acrylic? well the sick wrap you can even tell there is anythin on them it looks like your real nails.

but i am not sure what extreme nails are. sorry :(.

maybe they are like the really really really long nails some people have.

Are silk nails healthier for your nail beds than acrylic (glue)?

I always see the option for silk and sometimes solar nails at my local salon, but am not sure what these things are and if they are easier on the natural nails than the glue-based acrylic. Are silk nails healthier for your nail beds than acrylic (glue)?
Silk wraps are not as durable as acrylic overlays. The nail enhancements (i.e., acrylic, wraps, gels) are not was causes the damage to your nails. It's the nail tech. If you go to a reputable salon with a licensed nail tech that does quality work then the damage to your natural nails will be minimal. Are silk nails healthier for your nail beds than acrylic (glue)?
SIlk nails are glue based. Acrlics are not. I'm not quite sure how, or why you think they are, but they aren't. SIlk nails aren't very durable, and I really don't recommend them to people. And no, acrylics will not damage your nails as long as you go to a good tech, at a good, reputable salon. If you had bad experiences before, try going to a mid-to-high end salon. Not all of them are good, but I provided links for you to help eliminate some of the guesswork in choosing a good salon. You will pay more, but you won't feel rushed, or feel like you are part of an assembly line process. The cheap salons are just like that though. I can tell that you are going to a discount salon because you mentioned Solar Nails. Discount salons are really the only places that offer these, and they are not some new product, or something special though many people think they are. In case you already don't know it, Solar Nails ARE acrylic nails. Its the same exact acrylic products used on your nails. The term solar nail refers to whats otherwise called Pink %26amp; Whites, or Permanent French in the vast majority of salons owned and operated by Americans. The discount salons are not the places to go for nail services. They want you out that door as quickly as they can possibly get you out of there, and they use the absolut cheapest acrylic products that they can buy, hence the low prices. Plus, they will use a drill and ruin your nails more often than not. In a good salon, it will take about one and a half hours for a full set. And they will not rush you. Instead, you should feel relaxed, and pampered at the same time. For a list of salons all across the U.S., have a look at either of these two links. The first ons is from CND, who is the largest, and oldest nail product company in the world. They manufacture top of the line acrylic and gel products for prodessionals as well as a complete line of skin and nail products for the consumer. The techs that you will find on their salon locator have ALL been company trained in the use of their products, and company certified prior to their being listed on this page. Just find one in your area, and click on it, and a window will open up which will give you very detailed information about that particular tech/salon.

The second link is very good also, and its from a very reputable source. You cannot go wrong with either of them.

    I hope this helps!!!

yes, a silk overlay is much better than acrylic, while it is better to stay away from both, silk overlay will make your nails stronger and will not damage the nail bed. I personally have silk overlay, but you must keep them done!!! hope my answer helped, be blessed!

  • Which artificial nail is better silk, gel or acrylic?I want my natural nail to grow out.?

Silk is best because they put a thin layer of silk in between coats which makes the nail stronger %26amp; last longer. Plus, if you're getting a french tip, it prevents the off-white shade that sometimes comes w/ acrylic nails after they've been worn for a while. So I'd suggest those. And also when you're getting them taken off rather than having them prey them off like they usually you should ask them for that liquid stuff.... sorry I can't remember the name of it right now but they'll know what you're talking about. They soak your fingers in a bowl of whatever it's called %26amp; then file the fake nail off... leaving little to no damage to your natural nail.

go natural with your nails so it doesn't compete for attention with the dramatic floor length gown.

try any light pink or nude nail polish colors, keep your nails short!! and either square shaped or oval. no crazy embellishments or bright polishes. good luck!
pink doesn't look good. The general stereotype is that sluts/skanks wear pink. Its not really pretty, just attenstion seeking.
I would go with pink or white nail polish.

You can do a french manicure if you want to.

Try Hand Sanitizer, it will remove ink stains
Once nail polish is dry in fabric, there isnt any way to remove it. Best to go find a new shirt and use that one for a rag.
I do NOT think you can - take it to a Dry Cleaners - maybe they can help.
You cant. I am sorry. It is just like getting paint from a house on your clothes
No expert but silk is sooo tuff to mess with I would go to the cleaners. You could chill it off with ice cubes and treat the oil stain but, still I would not touch it if I really loved the blouse. Also they are not cheap so invest in professional help is my opinion.

What is the difference between silk and Acrylic nail extensions?

What is the safest way to remove false nail extensions with silk wraps?

Either go back to the salon to have them removed or use this method I use on clients

Get half a cotton wool ball , soak it in pure acetone and place on your nail, then wrap your thumb tip in a small piece of kitchen foil. Repeat on the remaining 4 fingers of one hand. After 10 minutes gently remove your thumb from its foil pod and buff off any softened resin and replace in the foil pod, do this on the other nails repeating until its all gone. Once one hand is done you do the other hand. When you are all done treat your nails to some cuticle oil...acetone is very drying

What is the safest way to remove false nail extensions with silk wraps?
You can either go to the salon and pay them to take them off for you.

Or soak your nails in acetone until the wraps fall off. But you're going to have to buff your nail bed after you are done to smooth it down. Also you can use nail polish with calcium in it to restore your nails. It helped my real nails to grow back, fast, healthy and strong. What is the safest way to remove false nail extensions with silk wraps?
Prob best to soak them in acetone. use something like an egg cup, fill with acetone and leave one finger at a time in it for a few minutes, take finger out, remove surface of nail with a tissue or cotton wool and then replace in the acetone and repeat. Takes a while but its gentler than filling them off, maybe set aside an evening for the task, when fully removed soak your cuticles with cuticle oil and use a good hand and nail cream. leave to rest before using nail varnish etc.
Go to the salon and pay to have them remove it.
